“Alexa, turn on outdoor lights.” “Alexa, set the Dining Room Thermostat to 78 degrees.” Easier life? Smarter home? Yes please! Your customers are all about efficiency. Wouldn’t it be great if you could help them use Alexa to control their Control4 devices with nothing but their voice?
To connect Amazon Alexa Voice Control to a Control4 Home, follow these steps:
Step 1: Link Alexa and Control4 Accounts.
Step 2: Discover Devices.
Step 3: Access and Configure Voice Control.
Step 1: Link Alexa and Control4 Accounts.
Special Note: A 4Sight subscription and an OS of 2.8.2 or greater are needed in order for a Control4 system to work with Alexa.
Once the customer has downloaded and logged in to the Alexa app,
Select More, then Skills and Games, and search for Control4. Select the Control4 Skill, followed by Enable to Use. Direct the customer to enter the email address and password from their Control4 customer account to link the Control4 account to Alexa, then select Accept to continue. The customer’s Control4 account is now linked to their Amazon Alexa account.
Step 2: Discover Devices.
Still within the Alexa app, Select Discover Devices and Alexa will scan the home to discover all the devices that can be controlled. Discovered devices are displayed in Devices and you can control devices and view their status. The Alexa app can be used to make groups or create routines, but these steps aren’t required for simple control of the discovered devices.
Step 3: Access and Configure Voice Control.
Direct your customer to navigate to customer.control4.com, login, and then select Voice Control. Here, using the checkboxes, your customer can enable or disable voice control for devices and edit the name of the device for voice control. If any changes are made, Save Changes must be selected so that Alexa can run a new discovery.
Select View Voice Commands. The resulting printable page lists each controllable device, and the Alexa voice commands that can be used to control it.
For more specific information on Voice Scenes, please refer to the Smart Skill titled “Using the Voice Scene Driver to Create Custom Voice Commands.”
Sold! Talk about leveling up! Integrating Amazon Alexa Voice Control with a Control4 home just made your customers even happier and their home even Smarter! On that note, “Alexa, goodbye.”
